Staging the Perfect Vacation Home

Being based in San Diego there is a natural market for vacation rental properties and when it comes to staging these homes we approach them a little differently than a real estate listing. As we approach the summer months and the vacation rental market opens up we wanted to offer our tips on how to bring these homes to life!

Choose a theme!

Creating a consistant look throughout a vacation home is a great way to attract guests. In San Diego we love working with a coastal or nautical theme. We also like to draw inspiration from the home’s architecture whether that be mid-century modern, craftsman, or modern.

Be Mindful of Maintenance!

Vacation rentals are different from a real estate listing in terms of the use of the furniture. The couches, beds, and other pieces will all actually be used by guests on a regular basis and therefore need to be both durable and functional. When selecting pieces be mindful of this and select items that are low-maintenance but will stand up to wear and tear.

Add a local touch!

Consider the neighborhood you are in and add a little local flare! For example, including a local bag of coffee beans from Birdrock Coffee Roasters or beer glasses from Modern Times are fun ways to highlight San Diego and the local businesses!

What’s the Weather!

It is important to think about the local weather when styling a vacation home. We are lucky in San Diego that it stays relatively consistent with sunny and warm days. When staging vacation homes we always suggest some kind of outdoor seating area so that guests can enjoy the beautiful weather while they stay at your property. One trend we love for outdoor furnishing is the use of natural materials such as rattan, bamboo, etc.
