Spanish Tile & A Contemporary Look

One of our recent favorites, this Spanish contemporary home encompasses a captivating blend of tradition and innovation, creating a unique and modern living experience with a nod to San Diego’s cultural heritage.

While contemporary design often looks to the future, Spanish architects frequently draw inspiration from the country's rich architectural heritage. This home, in particular, pays homage to traditional design elements, including its courtyard, Spanish tiles, and arched doorways. The home's exterior is beautifully unique, with a large arched window adorned with Spanish tile, a teal arched doorway, and lush palms and greenery; the home immediately welcomes you in. Off the main living and kitchen space is a quiet courtyard where our designers leaned into the teal color scheme with pops of the vibrant blue shade in a comfortable lounge area. Perfect for enjoying a glass of sangria on a summer evening!

Spanish contemporary homes are often characterized by their clean lines, minimalistic design, and a focus on functionality. Using simple geometric shapes and neutral color palettes creates a sense of calm and sophistication. As you enter this home, you are greeted into the formal living and dining space; our designers wanted to embrace the modern comfort of this home so they selected furnishings that felt livable while still painting a luxurious feel. The modern coffee table and lounge chairs reflect this design concept with their clean geometric shapes. Our designers also leaned into that neutral color scheme while bringing in shades of traditional Spanish design, including terracotta and teal, seamlessly blending with the home's exterior.

As you continue into the main living and kitchen space the home fills with natural light. Spanish design principles emphasize the importance of space, light, and flow within the home so our design team wanted to create a space that felt open but still livable. They did so with a functional breakfast nook off the kitchen and cozy seating in the living room. All of the lightweight furniture helps to create that feeling of ease in this space. These homes also often incorporate the natural environment into their designs. The large windows allow for natural light to cascade in and the outdoor living area allows residents to connect with the beauty of their surroundings.

Upstairs in the primary suite our design team focused on that feeling of ease that this style brings, With a large plush king bed as well as lounge seating, the room feels like your own retreat. We leaned into more of the neutral tones in the space and brought in plants as a way to bring nature into this room. From the seamless integration with nature to the clean lines of minimalism and the incorporation of Spanish color scheme, this home is a testament to the creativity and vision of Spanish architects.
