I was once discussing with a colleague about how somebody was being difficult at work . As I expressed myself emphatically she went ahead and remarked - you got to 'Create your own Kingdom'. What does that mean? I instantly asked. Now, this came from a person well experienced in Public Relations and Corporate communications and when I understood the significance of it I have never stopped getting inspired by this every working day. Create your own Kingdom. I now create my own kingdom everyday.
Creating your own Kingdom in simple words means creating innumerable touch points of people who will propagate your business for you when required. They will stand up for you when required. When you or competition are being discussed they may remark rooting for you, "you should meet them or try them out". Your Kingdom will build your business, your credibility and in effect market your brand. Your Kingdom is your strong power which will move your business leaps and bounds. Marketing without direct costs. Creating your own kingdom is more than referrals it is a philosophy, culture and working style you have within you.
Some of the principles of Creating your own Kingdom and how I follow them are below. With my staging business, BlueGrape Staging, In effect I am building my Kingdom every day and with every person. My Kingdom is an investment into my future and is growing larger and larger. Here are the some of the principles which are part of making your own kingdom. You will know your own or which work for you:
1. Give your best to each interaction - expected or unexpected: We don't know who can be of help when. Who you think today is a casual acquaintance or of no use to your business may be a part of your kingdom. I am genuinely interested and passionate about each interaction I have. I make sure my enthusiastic passion about my brand is passed on to others who will talk about it as they become part of my kingdom. You will find that the unlikely people are also building your kingdom. For instance, a photographer I casually met at a house coming up for sale started chatting up with me and enquiring about our brand. A few weeks later she passed on our details to a later to be customer. Was she a direct target audience? - No. But since I am creating my kingdom everyday, with more people than one can imagine, my kingdom talks for me and makes my business easier propagating it further and further.
2. Be Respectful and responsive with vendors: Sometimes we forget to treat our vendors with the respect they deserve. Customers and clients, yes we are super nice with (mostly;) but when it comes to vendors we can get careless. We can be nice till when required and then because of our own stresses or just sheer laziness to invest may be unresponsive or disrespectful. Your vendors can carry the word about you and often do within the industry. Don't break your kingdom, create it. It has to work with everybody not selectively.
3. Your Kingdom needs to keep growing: Think of new interesting ways to grow your kingdom. Creation is an ongoing process. If you are not spending time on creating or growing it daily you are waiting for things to happen rather than creating ripples which make them happen.
Creating my Kingdom has become second nature to me and I question myself often that am I creating my Kingdom everyday? My Kingdom now builds my brand, supports me, vouches for me and helps me create my empire! It's like a ripple which is spreading far and wide. Keep the thought in mind and you will find your own innovative ways to keep creating your own Kingdom.
